Kamppi Chapel

The Chapel of Silence

Kamppi Chapel, also known as the Chapel of Silence, is a unique and beautiful place of worship located in the heart of Helsinki. The chapel was designed by the Finnish architects Kimmo Lintula, Niko Sirola and Mikko Summanen, and it opened its doors to the public in 2012.

The unique sight of Kamppi Chapel of Silence certainly will draw anyone attention to the site. Located in one of the busy traffic junction of the city.

Located at Narinkkatori Square near the entrance to the Kamppi shopping complex, it looks does not appear to be a chapel at first glance. In fact, no regular church services are held here. No-one is baptised and wedding ceremonies are not held either. So it is not a chapel as such, even though there are regular prayer meetings.

Now if there is no prayer and worship at the chapel, what is it for?

The key purpose of this lovely little place is to offer you a brief escape from the inescapable outside noise. While everyone is rushing around outside, you can step inside and find yourself in an oasis of calm.

You need to see it to believe it, beautiful Chapel built from Finnish alder wood.

I’m not a religious or spiritual person but the silence here is profoundly serene and wonderful to experience when the world outside is filled with the noise of the city.
Incredible minimalist design adds to the feeling of being cocooned from the outside world. Take 10 minutes out of your day to reflect.
